With the rapidly approaching holiday season that means a few things.  Family, friends, good food, and of course college football bowl games.  The Top 25 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) teams will have recorded a winning season. And while home field advantage help, so does playing on a Synthetic Turf field. Consequently, these teams have a combined win-loss record of 133-29. This represents a total 86% win percentage. Those without synthetic turf have a percentage of 82%.

“Over the past decade, we have seen a steady increase in the amount of winning teams that play and practice regularly on Synthetic Turf,” noted Rick Doyle, President of the Synthetic Turf Council. “These fields create more opportunities for America’s amateur athlete. They play and practice football regardless of weather. In addition, they don;t worry about over used playing surfaces.” And those are just a few benefits of synthetic turf field!

Benefits of Synthetic Turf Fields

More than 6,000 synthetic turf playing fields are currently in use throughout the United States. Each year, usage conserves billions of gallons of water. Also, it prevents using millions of pounds of pesticides and fertilizers. Finally, it recycles millions of tires. So using a synthetic turf field is a way to go green and stay green. About half of all NFL teams currently play their games on synthetic turf. Also, it found recent approval by FIFA for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.  “Synthetic Turf fields are an ideal choice for any high school, club sports team, or recreational sports facility.  Their ability to accommodate high usage for multiple sports is amazing,. Furthermore, they eliminate use of natural resources. Finally, they are safer than natural sports fields. Consequently, this makes them the perfect choice.”

The formation of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) in 1998 guaranteed a true national champion by matching up the number one and two teams in the country while preserving the bowl system. Created by the six equity conferences and the University of Notre Dame, the BCS utilizes a combination of two human polls and six computer rankings to determine the standings. The BCS is part of the National Football Foundation, whose mission is to promote the power of amateur football in developing the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal and the drive for academic excellence in America’s young people.

The Pudding Yields Proof: Artificial Grass is Better

No wonder the top teams in the nation play on Artificial Turf on a regular basis, it has been proven to make America’s collegiate athletes better.  College football players’ times on a standard agility drill were 3% faster on Artificial Turf fields than on natural grass, but there was little difference in their times for the 40-yard dash.  The study included 24 players whose average on the 40-yard dash turned out to be 5.34 seconds on Artificial Turf and 5.33 seconds on natural grass. Their average on the pro-agility shuttle test was 4.49 seconds on Synthetic Turf and 4.64 seconds on natural grass.
